Bernice McFadden
Bernice McFadden was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up listening to family stories of Southern living. The roots of the South became her touchstone and the inspiration for Sugar, McFadden's first novel. She lives in Brooklyn, where she is at work on her second novel.
